The Spark Behind Lumen

We’re a group of design engineers who’ve felt the sting of “Make it pop” one too many times. Each of us comes from a different corner of design—product, software, research—yet we’ve all spent long nights redoing layouts and chasing cryptic client notes across Slack, email, and Figma comments.

After enough frustration, we looked at each other and said: “There has to be a better way.” We imagined a world where clients could actually say what they mean, where designers wouldn’t guess how to ‘make it pop’, and where collaboration felt exciting instead of exhausting. We also interviewed countless peers who shared the exact same pain points.

Why the Name “Lumen”?

We chose Lumen after the unit of light, because it symbolizes shining clarity on vague feedback. Where projects once involved guesswork and confusion, Lumen aims to illuminate the path—turning incoherent requests into confidence for freelancers and clients alike.
